#Reamp box vs di box pro
Good transformers cost money and are heavy.I was wondering about the Radial reamp box, as they offer both a passive (transformer based Pro RMP and the active X-Amp.) If I remember correctly some people on GS think the x-amp is superior though being active (something to do with more stable impedance?) but some others think the RMP is great. And for guitar, you basically can't have too much iron in the chain.Īctive circuits are favored by profit-oriented manufacturers because they are much cheaper to build and to ship. True transformer isolation is a great problem solver. Once all the connections are ready, the Redeye has a convenient button (direct/reamp selector) that allows you to switch from recording the original performance (acting as DI) to reamping that same recorded performance (acting as a reamp box), without having to make new connections. There is NO need for gain, and therefore NO need for a noisy active circuit.Īctive circuits always add noise, and the fact that they require power means opportunity for ground loop hum - especially with the vulnerable unbalanced cables that guitars are forced to use for historical reasons. The goal of a reamp box is to attenuate (aka drop) a hot, balanced, hi-z, Line level signal down to a weak, unbalanced, hi-z, Instrument level signal. Like I said - I'll probably bite the bullet and just buy a box but I just wanted to know from the experts what options I have. The 'real' Reamp boxes are passive - high quality transformers, purpose wound. The first part involves using a DI box to record the guitar directly into your DAW. I don't pretend to be an expert on this stuff but whther it is -10db or +4db, I think it will still result in a rolloff of the high end sending a low impedance signal into a guitar amp meant for a high impedance input. Simply run the DI track through an output on the interface you’re using, connect the output to a reamp box, and run the reamp box into the amp you. This ensures the signal will interface correctly with a guitar amp. A reamp box is a relatively new device that converts the output. A reamp box is a tool similar to a DI box, but it takes a Line Level source and converts it back to a Hi Impedance (Hi-Z) output. Reamps and DIs essentially do the same thing, operationally. re-amp box firstly isn't used in place of a DI, a reamp box isn't passive and they do amplify. I am aware that -10db is consumer level and I think the idea was to lower the level going into the amp, but I don't think that addresses any impedance mismatching. Some direct boxes and mic preamps are tube based, and these provide a different tonality. DI's are made to interface a Bass/guitar with a Mixing board, and many Di's are Totally passive and they dont amplify. Not sure if I can call sweetwater from Canada without a charge. It looks like exactly what I need- and they actually make them here in town (vancouver -canada) which I just found out.īy the way- I don't work for this company- if anyone can steer me in the direction of any other units that are better/cheaper/you've used with good results- please, by all means let me know. Best DI boxes 2022: a studio and stage staple for acoustic guitar, bass and keyboards. I just may buy one of those devices- in my other post I mentioned this one. These two are often confused for each other, or at least why each must exist independently. I'd rather not spend the money on a device built specifically for that if I don't have to I've also heard I could just switch the output on the delta1010 to -10db and it will be fine. A DI in front of a preamp isnt a very good idea and though you can placebo yourself into believing you hear a difference. I know they make such devices but I was told by a sales guy the local store that I could just use a regular DI box but the exact reverse of how you'd normally convert your guitar signal to line level. The way I understand it is I need to "step down" the line level signal to a low level-high impedance instrument level in order not to worst case -fry the input on the amp or possibly get some signal loss. You take the dry guitar track that was previously recorded, and send it out to the reamp.

Send my already recorded dry guitar tracks (recorded using DI box) back out from my delta 1010 into a guitar amp. What Exactly is a Direct Box Passive vs Active Direct Boxes. A DI box converts an unbalanced instrument-level signal to a balanced mic-level signal for an audio interface and mixing console, but a re-amp box will convert a balanced line-level signal to an unbalanced instrument-level signal. Maybe I'm not explaining myself correctly but it seems pretty clear to me. A re-amp box is often confused with a DI box, but in addition to recording the DI, a re-amp box allows you to take that DI and send it back through a guitar amp or a pedal chain. Pad - A circuit that reduces the signal level. I posted in the techniques forum but not one reply. Reamp - A box specifically made to convert an line level signal to something that can be sent to a guitar amp.
